As we convene for this international conference, it is important to reflect on the histories and cultures of Indigenous communities that were present on the land before us. We recognize and honour the enduring presence, resilience and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples across Canada. We would like to acknowledge that the land on which the conference takes place is situated on the traditional, unceded territory of the Huron-Wendat people. As Canadians, we remain aware of the ongoing struggles of Indigenous communities and commit ourselves to fostering respectful relationships and meaningful reconciliation.
